Students at 2016 Posada Students during Spanish Class
Dear OLMCS Families,
Welcome to the OLMCS Spanish Program! Our school launched the Middle School Spanish Program in 2013. In this 2016-17 school year, OLMCS is pleased to continue this program for its second year in grades K-fifth. In this website, you will find principles that may guide your child through this quest of learning this wonderful language. You will also find assignment dates, and information about the standards that the program follows. Furthermore, this website is meant to to empower you and your child, while presenting useful resources for this class. We hope that by doing this, you may find helpful knowledge about their learning.
In OLMCS, children within elementary grades receive sixty minutes of Spanish instruction a week. Middle School students work for ninety minutes of Spanish a week. This program has the goal to instill in our students the love of learning about other languages and cultures. It is designed to help students attain a degree of proficiency in the four skill areas in Spanish - listening, speaking, reading and writing - and to introduce them to exciting, diverse cultures of the Spanish- speaking world.
Through this plan, we aim to stimulate the students' interests through fun- filled activities that capture the flavor of the Spanish language and use. Nevertheless, academics will prevail in the program. The language that will be taught relates to things that students know, such as places, activities and objects around them. The use of familiar concepts will hopefully increase their desire to learn.
We look forward to working with you and your children. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
We are so proud of our program!
